Austrian GP review

A scintillating drive from Verstappen saw the Dutch driver claim his second consecutive victory at Red Bull's home circuit to the delight of the Orange Army. He came through the field superbly after the pit stops to pass Vettel, Bottas and Leclerc en route. Leclerc himself put in a great performance but could do little to stop the charging Red Bull. It is just a matter of time before the young Ferrari driver is on the top step. It was a subdued weekend for Mercedes as they were suffering from overheating and it was the first time this season Hamilton failed to finish on the podium. Bottas by some consolation did manage that feat for the Silver Arrows who showed the first signs of vulnerability in 2019. It was also a good day for McLaren and Alfa Romeo as all of their drivers finished inside the points. For McLaren Norris finished a 'best of the rest' P6 whilst Sainz made his way through the pack expertly to come home in 8th. The excitement builds as we return to Silverstone next time out.

Top 10 - 1. Verstappen, 2. Leclerc, 3. Bottas, 4. Vettel, 5. Hamilton, 6. Norris, 7. Gasly, 8. Sainz, 9. Raikkonen, 10. Giovinazzi

British GP

In 2018 it was Ferrari and Vettel who emerged victorious after the opening lap drama where his team-mate Raikkonen collided with Hamilton, ultimately ending the British drivers hopes of a grand prix victory. Despite the incident both drivers ended up on the podium, with Raikkonen ahead of Hamilton making it a 1-2 for the Scuderia. After Mercedes winning streak was finally put to an end in Austria will their rivals be able to strike again or will the Silver Arrows bounce back in style?

2019 podium prediction - 1. Hamilton, 2. Vettel, 3. Verstappen

Fantasy game

Verstappen had the honours this round of being the highest scorer, with an impressive 341 points tally thanks to the race win, fastest lap and being awarded driver of the day. Leclerc was his nearest challenger, receiving 221 points partly thanks to his excellent pole position on the Saturday. Bottas and Vettel were evenly matched on 186 points, whilst Hamilton had his weakest result so far in 2019 with 171 points. Both McLaren drivers scored good points, Sainz 150 and Norris 140 - Sainz having the edge due to the positions he gained during the race. Interestingly both outscored Gasly whose stock continues to fall. He is already nearly 350 points off the lowest of the other top drivers and is closer to the midfield drivers behind. Will the 74 players who have selected the French driver consider taking a hit and looking elsewhere for better value or make room for the higher scorers? My tips - Hamilton (£19.28M), Raikkonen (£7.91M), Norris (£6.99M). Good luck with your selections!

French GP recap

Another Hamilton masterclass sealed a dominant win for the British driver around the Paul Ricard circuit in what was Mercedes 8th consecutive win at the start of 2019, 10 if you include the final 2 races of 2018! Bottas made it another 1-2 for the Silver Arrows, although the Ferrari of Leclerc was closing fast in the final stages but ultimately had to settle for the final podium position. Verstappen was a lonely 4th whilst Vettel recovered to 5th after starting 7th. Raikkonen returned to form with a solid 7th place following the penalty applied to Ricciardo, whilst it was more disappointment for the home favourite Gasly in the Red Bull as he came home just inside the points to claim 10th position. Arguably Sainz put in the driver of the day performance to be 'best of the rest' in the McLaren after finishing 6th, however it was his team-mate Norris who was awarded the accolade after some impressive driving with a number of issues to deal with in the latter stages of the race - coming home in 9th.

Top 10 - 1. Hamilton, 2. Bottas, 3. Leclerc, 4. Verstappen, 5. Vettel, 6. Sainz, 7. Raikkonen, 8. Hulkenberg, 9. Norris, 10. Gasly

Austrian GP

Last season we had the very rare sight of a double retirement for Mercedes after engine failures ended hopes of a win for both Bottas and then Hamilton. In the end it was fan favourite Verstappen who claimed a popular win around the Red Bull Ring, ahead of the 2 Ferraris of Raikkonen and Vettel. Perhaps similar misfortune is required this year too if we're to see anyone other than a Mercedes victory this Sunday.

2019 podium prediction - 1. Hamilton, 2 Bottas, 3. Vettel

Fantasy Game

Hamilton now has a significant lead at the top of the charts, after another round score over the 300 point mark (303). He has a total now of 2,234, some 420 better than next placed Bottas and an incredible 800 over third place Vettel. If you haven't already will you transfer him in for this round, albeit at a cost of £20.08M? He leads the way unsurprisingly with the most picks in the game (443) but is closely followed by Leclerc (412). At the other end of the spectrum will you be looking to offload Gasly after another lacklustre performance in 2019? His value has now dropped to £9.96M. Another driver to consider taking out is Grosjean who sits bottom of the overall points scorers, even behind the 2 Williams drivers. The 199 owners who retained Raikkonen will have been pleased to see a return of form for the Finnish driver this time out and will be hoping for regular points finishes in the races to come. Ricciardo's time penalty on the other hand proved costly for the 255 players who had the Australian driver, but nonetheless they can be hopeful of some strong performances to come if he can stay out of trouble! Good luck with your selections!
